Elly Gibson

Elly Citron Gibson

Coach

Coach Citron began her playing career at a young age in Tallahassee, FL.  While there she was selected for Team Florida where she was able to train and compete under some of the top coaches in the nation.  Through Citron’s hard work and determination, she was asked to join the USA Junior National team 3 years in a row.  Her sophomore year of high school she and her family moved to Missouri where she continued to train and compete during her summers as a part of the USA Junior National program.

Citron’s college career began with Drury University where she was a top starter for both her freshman and sophomore year. Her favorite part about playing at Drury was getting to play side by side with her sister, Riley, who also played at Drury.  Citron then chose to transfer and received a scholarship to begin the inaugural Beach Volleyball program at Florida International University.  She competed with FIU her junior and senior year helping her team place 8th in the nation her junior year and 5th in the nation her senior year. Since her collegiate career ended, she has played semi-professionally both in the states and internationally in both beach and indoor volleyball.

Citron came from an athletic coaching and playing background.  Her father (John Citron) ran and coached track at Florida State University and her grandfather (Jay Ward) played Professional Baseball and coached for many major league teams as well as Aunts and Uncles who played volleyball and football collegiately.

In between her years of playing ball, Citron took her love of the sport at the young age of 16 and began volunteering at middle school and elementary clinics.  By age 18 she was the head coach of her first team.  Citron received her first High School coaching job 10 years ago while she was still in college playing for FIU and has never looked back.  Her coaching career consists of multiple Conference and District Championships, Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight State Play-Off runs, Coach of the Year Accolades, and most importantly helping a large number of her athletes receive scholarships to play ball at the next level (for beach and indoor).  Citron moved back to Tallahassee in 2024 and just finished her first season as the Head Coach at Leon High School.  Her love of the sport is what has pushed her to want to inspire others to grow the game and to help young athletes to have the same passion and opportunities she was blessed with because of this beautiful game.
